The Arapahoe School's Middle School Drug Prevention and School Safety Program Coordinator Program was funded for three years in 2002. The grant allowed Arapahoe School to recruit, hire, and train a full-time drug prevention and school safety coordinator to supervise the implementation of a research-based effective Drug Fee/Safe Schools program with an evaluation design that is both process and outcome data and results. Current grant activities: Arapahoe School recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week, a drug awareness activity. To kick off Red Ribbon Week, Jackie Bird, an American Indian performer brought her family to Arapahoe School to perform for the community in celebration of a drug free life. There were over 750 community members in attendance at the Jackie Bird concert. Other activities included Arapahoe School v. Wind River Police Department in a basketball game, "Dribble Drugs Away," students had an anti-drug slogan t-shirt contest, they also made posters with anti-drug slogans and passed them out to the community. Halloween day was the grant finale of Red Ribbon Week, the middle school students taught the elementary students different games to play rather than doing drugs, it was called, "Say Boo to Drugs." The Middle School Coordinator is Jenny Paskett. |
